The Rosie Project – Graeme Simsion

The Rosie Project – Graeme Simsion

ImageI absolutely adore this book! I just read it for the second time and laughed even more than I did the first!

In the first chapter of the book, we are introduced to Don, our genetics professor protagonist, as he gives a lecture on Asperger’s syndrome. It becomes clear to us as the reader that Don displays the very symptoms he is discussing, but merely believes himself socially awkward.

He initiates ‘The Wife Project’ and writes a questionnaire achieved to find himself the perfect life partner. His friend Gene takes over and sends Rosie in as a wildcard. She is definitely NOT Don’s type – a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker and consistently late. Yet he enjoys her company and finds himself having the best days of his life while working with her.

I enjoyed the references to scientific theories and while some parts of the story were predictable, it was a great read. I haven’t laughed so much in ages!

What results is a beautiful romantic comedy about a man who knows his limitations but works to overcome them to win the girl. It is always funny and absolutely heart-warming! A great read and a very refreshing take on the rom-com to have a male protagonist.

I cannot recommend this highly enough. While it may not leave you thinking, it is a refreshing easy-to-read story with great comic scenes. Get reading!
