Soooooooo, I cheated and went a bit crazy on BookDepository BEFORE I went on my book ban, and those books ALL arrived this week!!!!!!!! Yay! I was also sent an advance copy of Neil Gaiman’s new book – Cinnamon. It looks beautiful! So another failed week, but I’m very pleased with all of my acquisitions!

I have wanted to read Claire North’s work for AGGGEEESSS, and now I can! If I like this one, I will be buying the others too!

FullSizeRenderSo many ARCs this week! But I spent no money on books! SUCCESS! Still struggling under the weight of my TBR and its expectations though…

ARCs:

  • Living on Hope Street – Demet Divaroren

This looks like some heart-wrenching Australian YA fiction. It’s nice and short so hopefully I can knock it over fairly soon!

  • Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index – Julie Israel

I heard great things about this book from a friend – she just said it gave her so many happy emotions! I can’t wait to get stuck in – maybe this will be the book to draw me out of my slump?

  • All Our Wrong Todays – Elan Mastai

FullSizeRenderTwo books I ordered AGES ago arrived! A Court of Wings and Ruin was probably most anticipated! So thrilled that I ordered the lovely YA Chronicles box! I picked up an ARC at work of Eliza Henry-Jones’ first book In the Quiet, because I loved Ache so much last week and now need to read everything by her! And then I went to Free Comic Book Day for the first time ever! As well as FOUR free comics, I picked up two really interesting looking graphic novels! (Even though I wasn’t supposed to be buying ANY books this month!)

Fantasy:

  • Spindle Fire – Lexa Hillyer

I ordered this in January and it finally arrived! (I’d almost completely forgotten about it!) It sounds like a Sleeping Beauty retelling, and the hardcover is really pretty. This was a total cover buy.

  • A Court of Wings and Ruin – Sarah J. Maas

FullSizeRenderSoooooo, my book ban has NOT been going well AT ALL. I did make it to my library though; and the only books I paid for were audio books for my car trips! But still…. I should be making more of an effort…

Library:

  • Notes From a Small Island – Bill Bryson

I’m going to London at the end of the year! I like to prepare for holidays by reading books about the places I’m going to. I love Bill Bryson’s writing, so I’m starting with him! (I’m also doing a reread of the Harry Potter series!) What are your favourite stories from London/England?

  • What Language Do I Dream In? – Elena Lappin

I know I said that I would put myself on a total book ban, but this is me we are talking about!!! An accumulation of ONLY three books is a vast improvement! And I didn’t spend any money on them! (Well, except for my Audible subscription…)

  • A Brief History of Time – Stephen Hawking

I changed my mind about a book I had bought, and replaced it with this one – not only is it a part of the Dymocks101 this year, but it is a classic non-fiction which deserves its place on any bookshelf.

  • 4321 – Paul Auster

IT IS ENORMOUS! This is a book I have been interested in for a while, but haven’t bought because it’s just too big! It’s about a young man and four parallel lives he could potentially lead. A friend won a copy and, because she reads very little adult fiction and saw how excited I was about this book, passed it onto me! I want to read it shortly, butIMG_7430 am also considering taking it on my two and a half week holiday at the end of the year…

  • Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – J.K. Rowling, read by Stephen Fry

I’ve been meaning to listen to these audiobooks for AGES and I finally took the plunge! It’s so great to be doing a reread of these books in a different format. Now I’m thinking I should buy the audiobooks in French and German too!

What did you add to your shelves this week?

WOAH. I may have gone overboard to the extreme this week… How did I get up to 19 new books??? Oops… There was quite a bit of book shopping, and I got some ARCs sent to me by publishers. But seriously, from now on, I need to stop the purchasing. I am drowning in books. I need to make a rule that I can only get one new book for every 10 books I read. And I have to unhaul regularly.

Allen & Unwin:

  • How to Bee – Bren MacDibble
  • And Then You’re Dead – Cody Cassidy & Paul Doherty
  • Spellslinger – Sebastian de Castell

The wonderful people at Allen&Unwin sent me these beauties! I’m excited about And Then You’re Dead – it’s all about the world’s most interesting ways to die! Confronting mortality, much? How to Bee looks pretty intriguing – it’s set in a dystopian Australia where bees have died out and children pollinate flowers by hand. And I’ve heard a lot about Spellslinger and am very excited to formulate my own opinions.

I was soooooo good this week! And I STILL ended up with seven new books! Hahahaha! However, I did do some serious unhauling last week, so I’m not too concerned!

  • Cinder – Marissa Meyer
  • Scarlet – Marissa Meyer
  • Cress – Marissa Meyer
  • Winter – Marissa Meyer
  • Fairest – Marissa Meyer
  • Stars Above – Marissa Meyer

I have been coveting the hardcover editions of The Lunar Chronicles for so long, and my lovely friends bought them for me for my birthday!!! BEST PRESENT! They are so beautiful and I am sure they will feature heavily in my Instagram posts – they are just too pretty!!!
