Nine new books – oopsy! I also placed a big Book Depository order this week, so that will start arriving soon!!! I am having a ban in place for August though – no money will be spent on books AT ALL!

FullSizeRenderBook Club Picks:

  • My Absolute Darling – Gabriel Tallent

This book is critically acclaimed and it is my work book club book. Absolutely can’t wait to get stuck in (have to finish it by Tuesday!), as I have only heard incredible things.

  • Murder on the Orient Express – Agatha Christie

This is not technically a book club book yet, but I’m hoping I can persuade my group to pick it up for next month! I’ve never read an Agatha Christie, and with the movie coming out I really want to read this one ASAP!

I am so incredibly proud of myself this week – only three new books: I had ordered one ages ago and it just arrived (via a friend), one was for the work book club and the last was my monthly YA Chronicles subscription!

  • Shades of Milk and Honey – Mary Robinette Kowal

After reading Newt’s Emerald by Garth Nix, I have realised that Regency fantasy is a thing I can really get behind. So this is next on the list in that genre! Plus, I’ve had some Regency romance recommended and am rather intrigued…

  • Storyland – Catherine McKinnon

Only three books this week – WINNING! I received my YA Chronicles December box – beautiful as always; an audio book on Audible, and one ARC. img_6853It’s Christmas tomorrow – I generally don’t get books for Christmas as no one is quite sure what I have or haven’t read! If you want any of these books for yourself, get them from Booktopia!

The YA Chronicles:

  • Finding Wonders – Jeannine Atkins

A very beautiful fictionalisation of three famous women in science, told in verse. Bec and Alison included this book because ‘it encourages you to be the difference you want to see in the world’. And it really really has, girls! What a great book to give me hope and inspiration at the end of what has been a rather uninspiring year overall.

NOTE: The rest of the box was just as brilliant. I especially loved the Snitch bracelet, but the book tabs and washi tape will be so useful for my new year reading diary! Read more

Lots of new books this week! It has definitely not slowed down AT ALL! I’m devastated that my illustrated Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is still not here. This is what I get for not buying it in a physical store!

Work:

  • The Amateurs – Sara Shephard
  • Girl in Pieces – Kathleen Glasgow

I have been super nervous to start this book – it looks devastating. But the reviews have been so amazing that I have no choice. Hopefully I will get to it very soon. Read more

fullsizerenderWaaayyyyy too many books this week! Oops! Luckily I didn’t pay for too many!

I’m a bit annoyed that my Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Illustrated Edition hasn’t arrived yet… I’ll have to ring and see what’s happening! 😦

Buy any of these books for yourself from Booktopia.

Bought:

  • Milk and Honey – Rupi Kaur

I keep seeing this poetry book everywhere. I’ve only had a quick flick through but it is INCREDIBLE! And the simple line illustrations accompanying them are so relevant. I love it already!

ARCs:

  • The Pier Falls – Mark Haddon

This week (Sunday 15th May-Saturday 21st May) I went a little bit overboard…. I think I might have to ban books for June as well, seeing as I have had zero success so far this month! I ended up with an incredible 17 books this week! EEK!!!

Bought:IMG_5317

  • The Unexpected Everything – Morgan Matson

I don’t really know anything about this book! It came in my YA Chronicles box. Judging from the other items – a gorgeous Fairy Bread candle, a bath bomb, and a very cheery bookmark – it’s going to be a very happy, relaxed read. Can’t wait to get stuck into it! Though it will have to wait until I have the time to chill out!

  • The Stolen White Elephant – Mark Twain
  • The Death of Ivan Ilyich – Leo Tolstoy
  • To Be Read at Dusk – Charles Dickens
  • Hannibal – Livy
  • The Sea Raiders – H.G. Wells
  • The World is Full of Foolish Men – Jean de la Fontaine
  • The Body Politic – Jean-Jacques Rousseau
  • Lady Susan – Jane Austen
  • Tyger, Tyger – William Blake
  • Green Tea – Sheridan Le Fanu

WAAAAAYYYYY TOO MANY NEW ADDITIONS THIS WEEK (Sunday 17th April – Saturday 23rd April)! (And it wasn’t even a bad week – only 4! I’m just feeling overwhelmed with the sheer quantity of books in my bedroom….) I’m supposed to be massively reducing the number of books coming into my house, but I definitely failed here. Another four to add to the neverending TBR – on the last count, I had approximately 85 unread physical books in my house! I need to tackle that before bringing in new books!

ARCs:

FullSizeRenderMy ARCs this week aren’t actually new releases; they’re both out in the world. I just happened to find some copies through work!

  • Boy X – Dan Smith

I have finished this one already – it’s a very intense middle-grade action book. Ash McCarthy has twenty-four hours in which to save the world and his Mum from a deadly virus. Unfortunately, the island he is trapped on is dangerous and terrifying. Read more
